Every format has a job. STL for printing, OBJ for editing, STEP for CAD. Know which tier unlocks what before you need it.

.usdz
Apple Universal Scene
Textured 3D model in Apple's AR format. Preview in Quick Look, share via AirDrop, view in AR. The default output of Object Capture.
AR preview, client sharing
Free — watermarked Pro — clean
.stl
Stereolithography
Geometry only, no texture. The universal language of 3D printing — drag directly into Bambu Studio, PrusaSlicer, or Cura and print.
3D printing slicers

.obj
Wavefront OBJ
Mesh with texture maps. Opens in Blender, Cinema4D, Maya, ZBrush. The best starting point for editing or rendering the scanned geometry.

.ply
Polygon File Format
Point cloud with per-point color. Opens in CloudCompare, MeshLab, Open3D. Used for research pipelines, custom processing, and deviation analysis.
Research, CloudCompare, Open3D

.glb / .gltf
GL Transmission Format
Web-optimized textured mesh. Embeds in websites, loads in Three.js, works natively in Sketchfab, Unity, and Unreal Engine.

Standard for Exchange of Product Data
Parametric CAD solid — the format Fusion 360, SolidWorks, and FreeCAD actually want. Mesh-to-BRep conversion runs cloud-side; results flagged where surface fitting was uncertain.

DepthScan isn't a replacement for a CMM. It's what you reach for when you don't have one nearby, don't want to spend 20 minutes setting one up, or need a quick reference scan in the field. The accuracy is ±0.1–0.2mm — honest about it, not marketing-rounded to something it isn't.
Questions

The ones people actually ask

What iPhone do I need? +
iPhone 12 Pro or later for full scanning. iPhone 15 Pro or later for on-device Object Capture processing — older Pro models export the frames and process via the app's cloud pipeline instead. Non-Pro iPhones and Android devices don't have TrueDepth-class depth sensors and aren't supported.
Is ±0.1mm actually useful? +
For fit-checking, reverse-engineering reference, replacement part documentation, and client visualization — yes, absolutely. For certified dimensional inspection or anything that will be stamped with a tolerance spec — no. DepthScan is a field tool, not a CMM replacement.
What's the magnet tracking about? +
Stick 2–3 ordinary magnets to the part before scanning. The magnetometer reads their rotation as you move the part — the app calibrates to your specific magnets in about 20 seconds and tracks orientation from there. Works on any part that isn't itself strongly ferrous. A two-pass flow fills the small spots the magnets physically covered during scan 1.
Why is STL paywalled and not free? +
STL is the format that makes a scan immediately actionable — drop it into a slicer and print. Making that free would remove the most natural reason to upgrade. The free tier lets you verify the scan is good (live preview + .usdz to view and share); Pro lets you do something with it.
What does STEP conversion actually do? +
STEP is the parametric CAD format that Fusion 360, SolidWorks, and FreeCAD actually want — not a mesh, but a solid with recognizable geometry (planes, cylinders, fillets). Converting a scan mesh to STEP requires fitting geometric primitives to the point cloud, which runs on our servers. Regions where the fit was uncertain are flagged in the output rather than silently smoothed over.
Can I cancel anytime? +
Yes. Annual plans renew once per year; cancel before renewal and you keep access until the period ends. Monthly plans cancel immediately. No cancellation fees, no "are you sure" dark patterns.
Is there a lifetime deal? +
No, and there won't be. Lifetime deals devalue the product, attract the wrong customers, and make it impossible to fund ongoing development. Annual Pro at $179 is the best long-term value we offer.
Does the free trial require a credit card? +
No card required for the 14-day Pro trial. You'll be asked to add one at the end of the trial if you want to continue. No automatic charges until you explicitly confirm.
